Twenty-seven college and university students from the Hispanic Association of Colleges and Universities (HACU) National Internship Program (HNIP), joined more than 130 students attending the first Senate Democratic Latino Youth Summit in Washington, D.C.

The summit provided an opportunity for policy discussions and a town hall meeting. Several U.S. Senators will joined the large group of Hispanic students from around the U.S. to discuss the critical issues facing their communities.

The following topics were discussed:
• Immigration – Senator Ken Salazar
• Education- Senator Sherrod Brown
• Juvenile Justice- Senator Robert Menéndez
• Civil Rights- Senator Sheldon Whitehouse
• Civic Engagement- Luis Avila
